Afternoon Tea and Garden Picnics
Did you know that Afternoon tea was created on the premise of a hunger pang?
In 1840, it was the norm to have two meals a day, breakfast and supper. Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford was not convinced by this tradition. She moaned of feeling hungry and rather than wait, she arranged for some tea and cake to be served… in the Afternoon.
She invited friends. And that was it. It was the talk of the town. How else could you get through the day without a mini-meringue?
Fortunately, a bit like Anna, we are partial to a spot of tea and cake. And would like to take this opportunity to invite you to indulge in a range of delicate finger sandwiches, fresh scones and almost-too-pretty-to-eat cake. We would even recommend having a glass of bubbles (or two).
Plus we are now offering Garden Picnics as a great way to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds in the heart of the Surrey Hills.
Please note, bookings are essential for this sweet excursion.
